29 November 2016 - Over the next 2-3 months LPSN will become fully updated - there have been technical issues preventing efficient updates and I am now working around the issues.
21 November 2016 - LPSN migrated to a new data center today - service was temporarily disrupted.
18 October 2016 - To improve usablity, reference subheadings have been modified to clarify Valid, Effective and Approved Lists publications for names.
13 October 2016 - All links to the classification pages such as Classification of families and Lists of genera included in families now point to the up-to-date classfication of domains and phyla page.
2 October 2016 - LPSN is pleased to announce a new co-operation with bioinformatics company Ribocon (www.ribocon.com). Ribocon is a provider of DNA analysis for species identification and community profiling, with emphasis on digital management of taxonomic information and partner of the ribosomal genes database SILVA (www.arb-silva.de). Ribocon will be supporting LPSN by means of optimizing the database infrastructure and applying extra quality control procedures to improve system sustainability over time.
The classfication of domains and phyla page has been thoroughly updated in collaboration with Pablo Yarza from Ribocon.

2 January 2014 - an article that I wrote about LPSN has been published in the 2014 Database Issue of Nucleic Acids Research, vol. 42, issue D1, pp. D613-D616. It may be used in addition to Euzéby (1997) when citing LPSN.

29 June 2013 - Jean Euzéby, founder of LPSN, is retiring at the end of June 2013, having founded LPSN in 1997. LPSN is the most complete and authoritative source for prokaryotic nomenclature and I am pleased and honoured that Professor Euzéby has entrusted it to me. I have updated the formatting of the site, and my first update of the content itself will occur towards the end of July.
