Acidilobus Prokofeva et al. 2000, gen. nov. (Type genus of the order ¤ Acidilobales Prokofeva et al. 2009; type genus of the family ¤ Acidilobaceae Prokofeva et al. 2009).
Type species: ¤ Acidilobus aceticus Prokofeva et al. 2000.
Etymology: L. adj. acidus -a -um, sour, acid; L. masc. n. lobus, lobe; N.L. masc. n. Acidilobus, acid lobe.

Acidilobus aceticus Prokofeva et al. 2000, sp. nov. (Type species of the genus.)
Type strain: (see also Global Catalogue of Microorganisms) 1904 = ATCC BAA-268 = DSM 11585 = JCM 11320.
Sequence accession no. (16S rRNA gene) for the type strain: AF191225.
Etymology: L. n. acetum, vinegar; L. masc. suff. -icus, suffix used with the sense of pertaining to; N.L. masc. adj. aceticus, pertaining to vinegar; intended to mean producing acetate.
