Etymology: L. neut. n. aestuarium -i, tidal flat; N.L. masc. n. bacter, rod; N.L. masc. n. Aestuariibacter, rod-shaped bacterium from tidal flat.

Etymology: L. masc. part. adj. aggregatus, joined together, referring to the observation that the cells aggregated together when incubated for prolonged periods.
