Etymology: L. adj. albus, white; N.L. masc. n. bacter, rod; N.L. masc. n. Albibacter, white rod.
Valid publication: DORONINA (N.V.), TROTSENKO (Y.A.), TOUROVA (T.P.), KUZNETSOV (B.B.) and LEISINGER (T.): Albibacter methylovorans gen. nov., sp. nov., a novel aerobic, facultatively autotrophic and methylotrophic bacterium that utilizes dichloromethane. Albibacter methylovorans Doronina et al. 2001, sp. nov. (Type species of the genus.)
Type strain: (see also Global Catalogue of Microorganisms) DM10 = DSM 22840 (see also the note) = VKM B-2236.
Sequence accession no. (16S rRNA gene) for the type strain: FR733694.
Etymology: N.L. n. methylum (from French méthyle, back-formation from French méthylène, coined from Gr. n. methu, wine and Gr. n. hulê, wood), the methyl group; N.L. pref. methylo-, pertaining to the methyl radical; L. part. adj. vorans, devouring, eating; N.L. part. adj. methylovorans, digesting methyl groups.

Note: The type strain DSM 13819, cited in the paper by Doronina et al., is no representative of the taxon. Later, the DSMZ received the correct culture from Dr. N.V. Doronina and deposited it as DSM 22840.
