Type species: ¤ Alicycliphilus denitrificans Mechichi et al. 2003.
Etymology: Gr. adj. aliphos, fat; L. n. cyclus, circle or ring; N.L. pref. alicycli-, referring to circular fat-like organic compounds; N.L. adj. philus -a -um (from Gr. adj. philos -ê -on), friend, loving; N.L. masc. adj. Alicycliphilus, alicyclic compound-liking, referring to the substrates used for the isolation of this organism.
