Etymology: N.L. n. alkali, alkali from Arabic n. al, -qaliy, the ashes of saltwort; N.L. fem. n. Spirochaeta, a bacterial genus; N.L. fem. n. Alkalispirochaeta, alkali(-tolerant) relative of Spirochaeta.
