Type order: ¤ Actinomycetales Buchanan 1917 (Approved Lists 1980).
Etymology: N.L. masc. n. Arthrobacter, one genus of the class; Gr. n. baktêria, staff, cane; suff. -ia, ending to denote a class; N.L. neut. pl. n. Arthrobacteria, the Arthrobacter class.
