Atopococcus Collins et al. 2005, gen. nov.
Type species: ¤ Atopococcus tabaci Collins et al. 2005.
Etymology: Gr. adj. atopos, having no place, strange; N.L. masc. n. coccus (from Gr. masc. n. kokkos, grain, seed), coccus; N.L. masc. n. Atopococcus, a strange coccus.
Valid publication: COLLINS (M.D.), WIERNIK (A.), FALSEN (E.) and LAWSON (P.A.): Atopococcus tabaci gen. nov., sp. nov., a novel Gram-positive, catalase-negative, coccus-shaped bacterium isolated from tobacco. Int. J. Syst. Evol. Microbiol., 2005, 55, 1693-1696.
