Bilophila wadsworthia Baron et al. 1990, sp. nov. (Type species of the genus.)
Type strain: (see also Global Catalogue of Microorganisms) WAL 7959 = ATCC 49260= CCUG 32349.
Sequence accession no. (16S rRNA gene) for the type strain: KU749296.
Etymology: N.L. fem. adj. wadsworthia, belonging to Wadsworth, originating from the Wadsworth Anaerobe Laboratories of the Wadsworth Veterans Administration Medical Center.
Valid publication: Validation List no. 34. Int. J. Syst. Bacteriol., 1990, 40, 320-321.
Effective publication: BARON (E.J.), SUMMANEN (P.), DOWNES (J.), ROBERTS (M.C.), WEXLER (H.) and FINEGOLD (S.M.): Bilophila wadsworthia, gen. nov. and sp. nov., a unique gram-negative anaerobic rod recovered from appendicitis specimens and human faeces. J. Gen. Microbiol., 1989, 135, 3405-3411.
Validation List no. 34 in IJSEM Online - Effective publication Online

Note: According to a recent investigation, the previously listed 16S rRNA sequence (accession number AJ867049) for the type strain does not appear to belong to the type strain. Type strain CCUG 32349 was acquired, sequenced and deposited in GenBank under accession number KU749296; this sequence has a very high degree of identity with the earliest deposit (L35148) and will be used hereafter in LPSN [Personal communication, Kathy Bernard, August 2016].
