Type species: ¤ Brockia lithotrophica Perevalova et al. 2013.
Etymology: N.L. fem. n. Brockia, named in honour of the American microbiologist Thomas Dale Brock for his invaluable impact to our knowledge of thermophilic prokaryotes inhabiting volcanic environments.

Etymology: Gr. n. lithos, stone; N.L. fem. adj. trophica (from Gr. fem. adj. trophikê), nursing, tending or feeding; N.L. fem. adj. lithotrophica, inorganic-substrate-consuming.
