Etymology: Gr. neut. n. bruon, moss; N.L. masc. n. bacter, a rod; N.L. masc. n. Bryobacter, rod-shaped moss-associated bacterium.

Bryobacter aggregatus Kulichevskaya et al. 2010, sp. nov. (Type species of the genus.)

Etymology: L. masc. part. adj. aggregatus, joined together, referring to the frequent formation of cell aggregates.
