Type species: ¤ Budvicia aquatica Bouvet et al. 1985.
Etymology: N.L. fem. n. Budvicia, derived from Budvicium, the Latin name of the city Cěské Budějovice where the bacterium was first isolated.

Type species: ¤ Budvicia aquatica Aldová et al. 1985.
Etymology: N.L. fem. n. Budvicia, derived from Budvicium, the Latin name of the city Cěské Budějovice where the bacterium was first isolated.

Sequence accession no. (16S rRNA gene) for the type strain: AJ233407.
Etymology: L. fem. adj. aquatica, living in water; named to show the aquatic habitat of the organism, since all but one of the original strains were isolated from water.
