Etymology: L. adj. caldus, hot; Gr. pref. an, not; Gr. n. aer aeros, air; N.L. masc. n. bacter, rod, staff; N.L. masc. n. Caldanaerobacter, rod that grows in the absence of air at high temperatures.

Etymology: L. masc. adj. subterraneus, underground, subterranean, describing its site of isolation.

Etymology: L. masc. adj. pacificus, peaceful; pertaining to the Pacific Ocean, from the western part of which the type strain was isolated.

Etymology: N.L. masc. adj. uzonensis, pertaining to the Uzon Caldera, Kamchatka, Far-East Russia, from where the type strain was isolated.
