Caldisphaera Itoh et al. 2003, gen. nov. (Type genus of the family ¤ Caldisphaeraceae Prokofeva et al. 2009).
Type species: ¤ Caldisphaera lagunensis Itoh et al. 2003.
Etymology: L. adj. caldus, hot; L. fem. n. sphaera, sphere; N.L. fem. n. Caldisphaera, a hot spherical cell.

Type strain: (see also Global Catalogue of Microorganisms) IC-154 = ANMR 0165 = JCM 11604 = MCC-UPLB 1331.
Sequence accession no. (16S rRNA gene) for the type strain: AB087499.
Etymology: N.L. fem. adj. lagunensis, pertaining to Laguna, the province in the Philippines where the type strain was isolated.
