Type species: ¤ Costertonia aggregata Kwon et al. 2006.
Etymology: N.L. fem. n. Costertonia, honouring J. W. Costerton, a famous American biofilm microbiologist.
Valid publication: KWON (K.K.), LEE (Y.K.) and LEE (H.K.): Costertonia aggregata gen. nov., sp. nov., a mesophilic marine bacterium of the family Flavobacteriaceae, isolated from a mature biofilm. Int. J. Syst. Evol. Microbiol., 2006, 56, 1349-1353.

Etymology: L. fem. adj. aggregata, joined together, referring to the formation of aggregates during cultivation in liquid medium.
