Etymology: L. n. cucumis, cucumber; N.L. masc. n. bacter, rod; N.L. masc. n. Cucumibacter, a cucumber-like rod.
Valid publication: HWANG (C.Y.) and CHO (B.C.): Cucumibacter marinus gen. nov., sp. nov., a marine bacterium in the family Hyphomicrobiaceae. Int. J. Syst. Evol. Microbiol., 2008, 58, 1591-1597.

Etymology: L. masc. adj. marinus, referring to the sea, from where the type strain was isolated.
