Type order: ¤ Cytophagales Leadbetter 1974 (Approved Lists 1980).
Etymology: N.L. fem. n. Cytophaga, type genus of the type order Cytophagales; suff. - ia, ending to denote a class; N.L. neut. pl. n. Cytophagia, the class of Cytophagales.
