Type species: ¤ Demetria terragena Groth et al. 1997.
Etymology: Gr. fem. n. Dêmêtêr, Greek female god of agriculture and wives; L. fem. suff. -ia, suff. denoting belonging to; N.L. fem. n. Dernetria, belonging to Dêmêtêr, intended to mean a bacterium being responsible for fertility.

Etymology: L. n. terra, soil; L. suff. -genus -a -um, suffix denoting an origin; N.L. fem. adj. terragena, coming from soil.
