Type species: ¤ Denitrobacterium detoxificans Anderson et al. 2000.
Etymology: L. pref. de, from; N.L. pref. nitro-, pertaining to nitrocompound; L. neut. n. bacterium, a small rod; N.L. neut. n. Denitrobacterium, nitrocompound-reducing rod.
Valid publication: ANDERSON (R.C.), RASMUSSEN (M.A.), JENSEN (N.S.) and ALLISON (M.J.): Denitrobacterium detoxificans gen. nov., sp. nov., a ruminal bacterium that respires on nitrocompounds. Int. J. Syst. Evol. Microbiol., 2000, 50, 633-638.

Etymology: L. pref. de, from; L. n. toxicum, poison; N.L. n. detoxificans (sic), intended to mean poison-reducer.
