Denitrovibrio Myhr and Torsvik 2000, gen. nov.
Type species: ¤ Denitrovibrio acetiphilus Myhr and Torsvik 2000.
Etymology: L. pref. de, from; N.L. pref. nitro-, pertaining to nitrate; L. v. vibro, to set in tremulous motion, move to and fro, vibrate; N.L. masc. n. vibrio, that which vibrates, and also a bacterial genus name of bacteria possessing a curved rod shape (Vibrio); N.L. masc. n. Denitrovibrio, a vibrio that reduces nitrate.

Denitrovibrio acetiphilus Myhr and Torsvik 2000, sp. nov. (Type species of the genus.)

Sequence accession no. (16S rRNA gene) for the type strain: CP001968 (complete genome).
Etymology: N.L. n. acidum aceticum (from L. n. acetum, vinegar), acetic acid; N.L. masc. adj. philus (from Gr. masc. adj. philos), friend, loving; N.L. masc. adj. acetiphilus, loving or requiring acetate.
