Etymology: L. pref. de, from; L. n. sulfur, sulfur; N.L. pref. desulfo-, desulfuricating, used to characterize a dissimilatory sulfate-reducing prokaryote; L. adj. curvus, curved; N.L. masc. n. Desulfocurvus, a curved sulfate-reducing bacterium.

Etymology: L. masc. adj. thunnarius, of or belonging to a tunny (cooking tuna wastewater, Tunisia), where the species was first recovered.
