Type species: ¤ Desulfocurvus vexinensis Klouche et al. 2009.
Etymology: L. pref. de, from; L. n. sulfur, sulfur; N.L. pref. desulfo-, desulfuricating, used to characterize a dissimilatory sulfate-reducing prokaryote; L. adj. curvus, curved; N.L. masc. n. Desulfocurvus, a curved sulfate-reducing bacterium.

Desulfocurvus thunnarius Hamdi et al. 2013, sp. nov.
Type strain: (see also Global Catalogue of Microorganisms) Olac 40=DSM 26129=JCM 18546.
Sequence accession no. (16S rRNA gene) for the type strain: KC513819.
Etymology: L. masc. adj. thunnarius, of or belonging to a tunny (cooking tuna wastewater, Tunisia), where the species was first recovered.

Etymology: N.L. masc. adj. vexinensis, pertaining to the geographical origin of the isolate, the Vexin, an area of the Paris Basin, France.
