Type species: ¤ Desulfonispora thiosulfatigenes Denger et al. 1999.
Etymology: N.L. pref. desulfono- (from N.L. part. adj. desulfonans), desulfonating; N.L. fem. n. spora (from Gr. fem. spora, a seed), a spore; N.L. fem. n. Desulfonispora, desulfonating spore (-former).
Valid publication: DENGER (K.), STACKEBRANDT (E.) and COOK (A.M.): Desulfonispora thiosulfatigenes gen. nov., sp. nov., a taurine-fermenting, thiosulfate-producing anaerobic bacterium. Int. J. Syst. Bacteriol., 1999, 49, 1599-1603.
