Etymology: L. pref. de, from; L. n. sulfur, sulfur; L. masc. n. vermiculus, a little worm; N.L. masc. n. Desulfovermiculus, vermiform sulfate-reducing bacterium.

Etymology: Gr. n. hals halos, salt; N.L. adj. philus -a -um (from Gr. adj. philos -ê -on), friend, loving; N.L. masc. adj. halophilus, salt-loving.
