Etymology: N.L. n. ethanol -is, ethanol; L. part. adj. genens (from L. v. genere to produce) producing; N.L. neut. n. Ethanoligenens, ethanol-producing (bacterium).

Type strain: (see also Global Catalogue of Microorganisms) YUAN-3 = CGMCC 1.5033 = JCM 12961.
Sequence accession no. (16S rRNA gene) for the type strain: CP002400 (complete genome).
Etymology: N.L. neut. adj. harbinense, pertaining to Harbin, from Harbin, where the type strain was isolated.
