Etymology: N.L. fem. n. Fangia, named after Professor Xinfang Fang, founder of the Institute of Microbiology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

Etymology: N.L. fem. adj. hongkongensis, pertaining to Hong Kong SAR, PR China, where the bacterium was first isolated.
