Type species: ¤ Ferrimicrobium acidiphilum Johnson et al. 2009.
Etymology: L. n. ferrum, iron; N.L. neut. n. microbium, microbe; N.L. neut. n. Ferrimicrobium, iron microbe, referring to its capacity for ferrous iron oxidation.

Etymology: N.L. neut. n. acidum (from L. adj. acidus, sour), an acid; N.L. adj. philus -a -um (from Gr. adj. philos -ê -on), friend, loving; N.L. neut. adj. acidiphilum, acid-loving.
