Fervidicoccus Perevalova et al. 2010, gen. nov. (Type genus of the order ¤ Fervidicoccales Perevalova et al. 2010; type genus of the family ¤ Fervidicoccaceae Perevalova et al. 2010).
Type species: ¤ Fervidicoccus fontis Perevalova et al. 2010.
Etymology: L. adj. fervidus, hot; N.L. masc. n. coccus (from Gr. masc. n. kokkos), a grain or berry; N.L. masc. n. Fervidicoccus, coccus which grows at high temperatures.

Fervidicoccus fontis Perevalova et al. 2010, sp. nov. (Type species of the genus.)
Type strain: (see also Global Catalogue of Microorganisms) Kam940 = 940 = DSM 19380 = VKM B-2539.
Sequence accession no. (16S rRNA gene) for the type strain: EF552404.
Etymology: L. gen. n. fontis, of a spring or fountain, referring to the isolation of the type strain from a terrestrial hot spring.
