Type order: ¤ Bacillales Prévot 1953 (Approved Lists 1980).
Etymology: L. adj. firmus, strong; Gr. n. baktêria, staff, cane; N.L. neut. pl. n. Firmibacteria, bacteria with a strong cell wall.
