Etymology: L. adj. fulvus, yellow; L. fem. n. talea, rod; N.L. fem. n. Fulvitalea, yellow-coloured rod.

Sequence accession no. (16S rRNA gene) for the type strain: JN699063.
Etymology: N.L. gen. n. axinellae, of Axinella, referring to the isolation of the type strain from the marine sponge Axinella verrucosa.
