Geovibrio Caccavo et al. 2000, gen. nov. (Type genus of the order ¤ Geovibriales Cavalier-Smith 2002).
Type species: ¤ Geovibrio ferrireducens Caccavo et al. 2000.
Etymology: Gr. n. , the earth; L. v. vibro, to vibrate; N.L. masc. n. Geovibrio, vibrating from the earth.

Etymology: L. n. ferrum, iron; L. part. adj. reducens, leading back, bringing back and, in chemistry, converting to a different oxidation state; N.L. part. adj. ferrireducens, reducing iron.

Etymology: Gr. n. theion (Latin transliteration thium), sulfur; N.L. masc. adj. philus (from Gr. masc. adj. philos), friend, loving; N.L. masc. adj. thiophilus, sulfur-loving.
