Etymology: Gr. n. hals halos, salt; Gr. n. rhodon, the rose; L. fem. n. spira, the spiral; N.L. fem. n. Halorhodospira, the spiral rose from salt lakes.

Etymology: L. adj. neutralis, neutral; N.L. adj. philus -a -um (from Gr. adj. philos -ê -on), friend, loving; N.L. adj. neutriphila, preferring neutral pH.

Notes:
1 At the time of publication, the type strain was not deposited in two publicly accessible service collections in different countries, and Halorhodospira neutriphila Hirschler-Réa et al. 2003 was not validly published [Rules 27(3) and 30]. However, according to the Judicial Opinion 81, Halorhodospira neutriphila Hirschler-Réa et al. 2003 is now considered to be validly published, since deposit in a second culture collection in a different country has been documented.
