Etymology: Gr. n. hals halos, salt; Gr. adj. thermos, hot; Gr. fem. n. thrix, hair; N.L. fem. n. Halothermothrix, a thermophilic (fermentative) halophile.

Etymology: N.L. gen. masc. n. orenii, of Oren, named after Aharon Oren who has made important contributions to the knowledge of halophilic anaerobic bacteria.
