Type species: ¤ Helcococcus kunzii Collins et al. 1993.
Etymology: Gr. n. helkos, wound; N.L. masc. n. coccus (Gr. mas. n. kokkos), berry; N.L. masc. n. Helcococcus, a coccus found in wounds.
