Type species: ¤ Humicoccus flavidus Yoon et al. 2007.
Etymology: L. n. humus, the soil; N.L. masc. n. coccus (from Gr. masc. n. kokkos, grain, seed), coccus; N.L. masc. n. Humicoccus, coccus isolated from soil.

Note: Kim et al. 2012 propose to transfer Humicoccus flavidus Yoon et al. 2007 (the type species of the genus Humicoccus ) to the genus ¤ Nakamurella as ¤ Nakamurella flavida (Yoon et al. 2007) Kim et al. 2012, comb. nov. According to Rule 37a, bacteriologists adhering to this proposal must change the name Humicoccus to ¤ Nakamurella.
