Etymology: L. masc. n. humus, soil; L. masc. n. habitans, an inhabitant; N.L. masc. n. Humihabitans, an inhabitant of soil.

Note: Yang et al. 2012 propose to transfer ¤ Humihabitans oryzae Kageyama et al. 2007 (the type species of the genus Humihabitans) to the genus ¤ Intrasporangium as ¤ Intrasporangium oryzae (Kageyama et al. 2007) Yang et al. 2012, comb. nov. According to Rule 37a, bacteriologists adhering to this proposal must change the name Humihabitans to ¤ Intrasporangium.

Etymology: L. gen. n. oryzae, of rice, pertaining to the isolation of the type strain from rice paddy soil.
