Type species: ¤ Janibacter limosus Martin et al. 1997.
Etymology: L. n. Janus (or Ianus), a god in roman mythology, who is said to have had two faces; N.L. masc. n. bacter, a rod; N.L. masc. n. Janibacter, referring to the changing morphology of the microorganisms.
