Jonesia Rocourt and Stackebrandt 1987, gen. nov. (Type genus of the family ¤ Jonesiaceae Stackebrandt et al. 1997).
Type species: ¤ Jonesia denitrificans (Prévot 1961) Rocourt et al. 1987.
Etymology: N.L. fem. n. Jonesia, named after  Dorothy Jones, British microbiologist.

Etymology: N.L. v. denitrifico, to denitrify; N.L. part. adj. denitrificans, denitrifying.

Jonesia quinghaiensis Schumann et al. 2004, sp. nov.
Type strain: (see also Global Catalogue of Microorganisms) QH3A7 = CGMCC 1.3459 = DSM 15701 = JCM 13009.
Sequence accession no. (16S rRNA gene) for the type strain: AJ626896.
Etymology: N.L. fem. adj. quinghaiensis, pertaining to Qinghai, Western province of China, where the type strain was isolated.
