Kerstersia Coenye et al. 2003, gen. nov.
Type species: ¤ Kerstersia gyiorum Coenye et al. 2003.
Etymology: N.L. fem. n. Kerstersia, in honour of K. Kersters, an eminent Belgian microbiologist, for his contributions to polyphasic taxonomy and to the introduction of computerized protein gel electrophoresis.
Valid publication: COENYE (T.), VANCANNEYT (M.), CNOCKAERT (M.C.), FALSEN (E.), SWINGS (J.) and VANDAMME (P.): Kerstersia gyiorum gen. nov., sp. nov., a novel Alcaligenes faecalis-like organism isolated from human clinical samples, and reclassification of Alcaligenes denitrificans Rüger and Tan 1983 as Achromobacter denitrificans comb. nov. Type strain: (see also Global Catalogue of Microorganisms) API 184-2-84 = CCUG 47000 = LMG 5906.
Sequence accession no. (16S rRNA gene) for the type strain: AY131213.
Etymology: Gr. n. gyion, limb; N.L. gen. n. gyiorum, from the limbs, referring to the fact that the majority of strains were isolated from human leg wounds.

Type strain: (see also Global Catalogue of Microorganisms) CCUG 46999 = LMG 5890.
Sequence accession no. (16S rRNA gene) for the type strain: AY131212.
Etymology: L. fem. adj. similis, similar, resembling, as strains of the species biochemically resemble strains of Kerstersia gyiorum.
