Kerstersia Coenye et al. 2003, gen. nov.
Type species: ¤ Kerstersia gyiorum Coenye et al. 2003.
Etymology: N.L. fem. n. Kerstersia, in honour of K. Kersters, an eminent Belgian microbiologist, for his contributions to polyphasic taxonomy and to the introduction of computerized protein gel electrophoresis.
Valid publication: COENYE (T.), VANCANNEYT (M.), CNOCKAERT (M.C.), FALSEN (E.), SWINGS (J.) and VANDAMME (P.): Kerstersia gyiorum gen. nov., sp. nov., a novel Alcaligenes faecalis-like organism isolated from human clinical samples, and reclassification of Alcaligenes denitrificans Rüger and Tan 1983 as Achromobacter denitrificans comb. nov. Kerstersia gyiorum Coenye et al. 2003, sp. nov. (Type species of the genus.)
Type strain: (see also Global Catalogue of Microorganisms) API 184-2-84 = CCUG 47000 = LMG 5906.
Sequence accession no. (16S rRNA gene) for the type strain: AY131213.
Etymology: Gr. n. gyion, limb; N.L. gen. n. gyiorum, from the limbs, referring to the fact that the majority of strains were isolated from human leg wounds.

Type strain: (see also Global Catalogue of Microorganisms) CCUG 46999 = LMG 5890.
Sequence accession no. (16S rRNA gene) for the type strain: AY131212.
Etymology: L. fem. adj. similis, similar, resembling, as strains of the species biochemically resemble strains of Kerstersia gyiorum.
Valid publication: VANDAMME (P.), DE BRANDT (E.), HOUF (K.) and DE BAERE (T.): Kerstersia similis sp. nov., isolated from human clinical samples. Int. J. Syst. Evol. Microbiol., 2012, 62, 2156-2159.
