Leclercia Tamura et al. 1987, gen. nov.
Type species: ¤ Leclercia adecarboxylata (Leclerc 1962) Tamura et al. 1987.
Etymology: N.L. fem. n. Leclercia, named to honor H. Leclerc, a French bacteriologist, who first described and named this organism Escherichia adecarboxylata in 1962, and who made many other contributions to enteric bacteriology.
Valid publication: Validation List no. 23. Int. J. Syst. Bacteriol., 1987, 37, 179-180.
Effective publication: TAMURA (K.), SAKAZAKI (R.), KOSAKO (Y.) and YOSHIZAKI (E.): Leclercia adecarboxylata gen. nov., comb. nov., formerly known as Escherichia adecarboxylata. Curr. Microbiol., 1986, 13, 179-184.

Leclercia adecarboxylata (Leclerc 1962) Tamura et al. 1987, comb. nov. (Type species of the genus.)
Type strain: (see also Global Catalogue of Microorganisms) ATCC 23216= CIP 82.92 = DSM 5077 = HAMBI 1696 = JCM 1667 = LMG 2803 = NBRC 102595 = NCTC 13032.
Sequence accession no. (16S rRNA gene) for the type strain: JN175338.
Basonym: ¤ Escherichia adecarboxylata Leclerc 1962 (Approved Lists 1980).
Etymology: Gr. pref. a, not; N.L. n. decarboxylum [from new Fr. n. decarboxyl (from Fr. n. carboxyl)], removal of a molecule of carbon dioxide from an organic compound; L. suff. -atus -a -um, suffix meaning provided with; N.L. fem. adj. adecarboxylata, without decarboxylase activity; because it has negative reactions in lysine decarboxylase, ornithine decarboxylase and arginine dihydrolase; i.e., “triple decarboxylase negative”.
Valid publication: Validation List no. 23. Int. J. Syst. Bacteriol., 1987, 37, 179-180.
