Type species: ¤ Mesonia algae Nedashkovskaya et al. 2003.
Etymology: N.L. fem. n. Mesonia, arbitrary name derived from the abbreviation MES (Marine Experimental Station of the Pacific Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry, FEB RAS) near the site where the bacteria were first isolated.
