Mesoplasma Tully et al. 1993, gen. nov.
Type species: ¤ Mesoplasma florum (McCoy et al. 1984) Tully et al. 1993.
Etymology: Gr. adj. mesos, medium, middle; Gr. neut. n. plasma, something formed or molded, a form, figure; N.L. neut. n. Mesoplasma, middle form, name intended to denote a middle position with respect to sterol or cholesterol requirement.
