Methanomassiliicoccus Dridi et al. 2012, gen. nov.
Type species: ¤ Methanomassiliicoccus luminyensis Dridi et al. 2012.
Etymology: N.L. pref. methano-, pertaining to methane; L. n. Massilia, Latin name for Marseille; N.L. masc. n. coccus (from Gr. masc. n. kokkos, grain, seed) coccus; N.L. masc. n. Methanomassiliicoccus, a methane-forming coccus from Marseille.
Valid publication: Validation List no. 148. Int. J. Syst. Evol. Microbiol., 2012, 62, 2549-2554.
Effective publication: DRIDI (B.), FARDEAU (M.L.), OLLIVIER (B.), RAOULT (D.) and DRANCOURT (M.): Methanomassiliicoccus luminyensis gen. nov., sp. nov., a methanogenic archaeon isolated from human faeces. Int. J. Syst. Evol. Microbiol., 2012, 62, 1902-1907.
Validation List no. 148 in IJSEM Online - Effective publication Online

Note: Methanomassiliicoccus Dridi et al. 2012 and Methanomassiliicoccus luminyensis Dridi et al. 2012, appear in the August 2012 issue of the IJSEM. However, these names were not validly published because the DSMZ accession number (DSM 24529), cited in the paper by Dridi et al. 2012, is a patent deposit [see Rule 30 (4).]. In order to validly publish these names, Methanomassiliicoccus Dridi et al. 2012 and Methanomassiliicoccus luminyensis Dridi et al. 2012, are cited on Validation List 148.

Methanomassiliicoccus luminyensis Dridi et al. 2012, sp. nov. (Type species of the genus.)
Type strain: (see also Global Catalogue of Microorganisms) B10 = CSUR P135 = DSM 25720.
Sequence accession no. (16S rRNA gene) for the type strain: HQ896499.
Etymology: N.L. masc. adj. luminyensis, belonging to Luminy, the place where the type strain was isolated.
Valid publication: Validation List no. 148. Int. J. Syst. Evol. Microbiol., 2012, 62, 2549-2554.
Effective publication: DRIDI (B.), FARDEAU (M.L.), OLLIVIER (B.), RAOULT (D.) and DRANCOURT (M.): Methanomassiliicoccus luminyensis gen. nov., sp. nov., a methanogenic archaeon isolated from human faeces. Int. J. Syst. Evol. Microbiol., 2012, 62, 1902-1907.
Validation List no. 148 in IJSEM Online - Effective publication Online

Note: In the original publication the DSM number that is given, DSM 24529, is a patent strain. Consequently the original publication does not meet the requirements of rules of the Bacteriological Code [see Rule 30 (4).]. This affects valid publication of the genus name and species combination. The correct DSM number of the type strain of the type species appears on Validation List 148.
