Subclass Micrococcineae

Warning: In the List of Prokaryotic names with Standing in Nomenclature, an arrow () only indicates the sequence of valid publication of names and does not mean that the last name in the sequence must be used (see: Introduction).

Classification - Warning: see also the file "Classification of prokaryotes: Introduction".

Micrococcineae Stackebrandt et al. 1997, subord. nov.
Type genus: ¤ Micrococcus Cohn 1872 (Approved Lists 1980).
Etymology: N.L. masc. n. Micrococcus, type genus of the suborder; suff. -ineae, ending to denote a suborder; N.L. fem. pl. n. Micrococcineae, the Micrococcus suborder.

Note: In the paper by Stackebrandt et al. 1997, the suborder Micrococcineae is cited as Micrococcineae (Micrococceae Prévot 1961) emend. Stackebrandt et al. 1997.

Micrococcineae Stackebrandt et al. 1997 emend. Zhi et al. 2009.
Type genus: ¤ Micrococcus Cohn 1872 (Approved Lists 1980).
Etymology: N.L. masc. n. Micrococcus, type genus of the suborder; suff. -ineae, ending to denote a suborder; N.L. fem. pl. n. Micrococcineae, the Micrococcus suborder.

Micrococcineae Stackebrandt et al. 1997 emend. Yassin et al. 2011.
Type genus: ¤ Micrococcus Cohn 1872 (Approved Lists 1980).
Etymology: N.L. masc. n. Micrococcus, type genus of the suborder; suff. -ineae, ending to denote a suborder; N.L. fem. pl. n. Micrococcineae, the Micrococcus suborder.
Reference: YASSIN (A.F.), HUPFER (H.), SIERING (C.), KLENK (H.P.) and SCHUMANN (P.): Auritidibacter ignavus gen. nov., sp. nov., of the family Micrococcaceae, isolated from an ear swab of a man with otitis externa, transfer of the members of the family Yaniellaceae Li et al. 2008 to the family Micrococcaceae and emended description of the suborder Micrococcineae. Int. J. Syst. Evol. Microbiol., 2011, 61, 223-230.

Note: Yassin et al. 2011, corrected the pattern of signature nucleotides that previously (Zhi et al. 2009) have been defined for the family ¤ Yaniellaceae. The new pattern (exept of position 196) corresponded to the pattern defined for the family ¤ Micrococcaceae by Zhi et al., (2009). This evidence clearly precludes the inclusion of the genus ¤ Yaniella in a separate family within the suborder Micrococcineae and confirm the incorporation of ¤ Yaniellaceae in the family ¤ Micrococcaceae.
