Mollicutes Edward and Freundt 1967, classis.
Type order: not given.
Synonym: "Paramycetes" Sabin 1941.
Etymology: L. adj. mollis, easily movable, pliant, flexible; L. fem. n. cutis, the skin; N.L. fem. pl. n. Mollicutes, class with pliable cell boundary.
