Type species: ¤ Mongoliicoccus roseus Liu et al. 2012.
Etymology: N.L. n. Mongolia, Mongolia; N.L. masc. n. coccus (from Gr. masc. n. kokkos, grain), coccus; N.L. masc. n. Mongoliicoccus, a coccus from Mongolia, referring to the isolation of the type strain from the Mongolia Plateau.

Etymology: N.L. n. alkali, soda ash; N.L. adj. philus -a -um (from Gr. adj. philos -ê -on), friend, loving; N.L. masc. adj. alkaliphilus, loving alkaline conditions.
