Type species: ¤ Natrialba asiatica Kamekura and Dyall-Smith 1996.
Recommended three-letter abbreviation: Nab. (see the file ¤ "Three-letter code for abbreviations of generic names").
Etymology: N.L. n. natron (arbitrarily derived from the Arabic n. natrun or natron) soda, sodium carbonate; L. adj. alba, white; L. fem. n. Natrialba, sodium white; referring to the high sodium ion requirement and the pigmentless colonies of the type species.

Etymology: L. fem. adj. aegyptia, pertaining to Egypt, referring to the geographical region from which this organism was isolated.

2 The Lists Editor has corrected the original spelling of the specific epithet aegyptiaca to aegyptia. However, the Latin adjective aegyptiacus -a -um has been used by Aulus Gellius (a grammarian of the second century A.D.) and, later, by Saint Jerome.
