Etymology: N.L. n. natron (arbitrarily derived from the Arabic n. natrun or natron) soda, sodium carbonate; N.L. pref. natrono-, pertaining to soda; N.L. masc. n. coccus (from Gr. masc. n. kokkos, grain, seed), coccus; N.L. masc. n. Natronococcus, soda berry.

Etymology: Gr. n. amulon, starch; N.L. masc. adj. lyticus (from Gr. masc. adj. lutikos), able to loosen, able to dissolve; N.L. masc. adj. amylolyticus, starch dissolving.
