Nitrosolobus Watson et al. 1971, genus.
Type species: ¤ Nitrosolobus multiformis Watson et al. 1971 (Approved Lists 1980).
Etymology: L. adj. nitrosus, full of natron; here intended to mean nitrous; N.L. masc. n. lobus (from Gr. masc. n. lobos, lobe of the ear, or liver, or lung), a lobe; N.L. masc. n. nitrosolobus, nitrous lobe, a lobe producing nitrite.

→ ¤ Nitrosospira Winogradsky and Winogradsky 1933 (Approved Lists 1980).
Note: Head et al. 1995 propose to transfer ¤ Nitrosolobus multiformis Watson et al. 1971 (Approved Lists 1980) (the type species of the genus Nitrosolobus) to the genus ¤ Nitrosospira as ¤ Nitrosospira multiformis (Watson et al. 1971) Head et al. 1995, comb. nov. According to Rule 37a, bacteriologists adhering to this proposal must change the name Nitrosolobus to ¤ Nitrosospira.
