Type genus: ¤ Oleiphilus Golyshin et al. 2002.
Etymology: N.L. masc. n. Oleiphilus, type genus of the family; suff. -aceae, ending to denote a family; N.L. fem. pl. n. Oleiphilaceae, the Oleiphilus family.
Valid publication: GOLYSHIN (P.N.), CHERNIKOVA (T.N.), ABRAHAM (W.R.), LÜNSDORF (H.), TIMMIS (K.N.) and YAKIMOV (M.M.): Oleiphilaceae fam. nov., to include Oleiphilus messinensis gen. nov., sp. nov., a novel marine bacterium that obligately utilizes hydrocarbons.
