Etymology: Gr. adj. oligos, little, few; L. part. adj. flexus, bent, curved; N.L. masc. n. Oligoflexus, flexible utilizer of few substrates.

Type strain: (see also Global Catalogue of Microorganisms) Shr3T ( = JCM 16864T = NCIMB 14846.
Sequence accession no. (16S rRNA gene) for the type strain: AB540021.
Etymology: N.L. masc. n. tunisiensis, pertaining to Tunisia, where the type strain was isolated.
